Beta program FAQs

How does it work?

Approximately four times a year, OTC will provide software updates for the Encore and Evolve. Prior to its public release, we offer you a chance to try this new software on your Encore or Evolve during a beta phase.

During the Beta Phase, we want your feedback about the new software. When you use your tool during this Beta Phase, we ask you to provide us feedback for every vehicle  you work on.

We will use your experiences to decide if the new software is ready for public release or requires additional engineering. When planning new releases and features, your input will be considered a priority. We understand it is your tool and are committed to focus on providing what you need the most.

What’s in it for me?

As a Beta Tester, you will always have access to the latest software updates prior to any other tool owner. Having access to the very latest code coverage and diagnostic features provides you a competitive advantage in your market.

Even more, the Beta Program provides you an opportunity to help direct OTC diagnostics. Your feedback and suggestions will feed into our product roadmap and decision making.

What else should I know?

The beta phase will continue until we have collected enough feedback to confirm the software is ready for public release. You will be notified a few days in advance of the program's start. Once the beta software is available, you will need to update your tool to begin testing.

Occasionally we may reach out to get more information on your experiences.

It is important to note that the beta software provided to you for testing is still under development. Special caution is required and OTC cannot be held accountable for any issues resulting from problems in the tool. If any critical issues are reported to us, we will immediately inform you and advice on how to proceed. While we will take responsibility for repairing your Encore or Evolve tool in case of breakdown or damage caused by the beta software, we cannot be held accountable for any potential damage to vehicles or other equipment.

What is Beta testing?

Beta testing is the final step of the product validation process. A select group of technicians will test our new diagnostic software to ensure it meets the needs of all OTC diagnostic tool owners.

What is the goal of Beta testing?

The goal of Beta testing is to confirm the readiness of our diagnostics software for the shop. Feedback is desired on all aspects of the product, including expanded coverage, on-tool repair information and overall functionality.

Should I focus testing on specific areas?

No. Use the tool as you normally would. Our goal is to collect info on how our new software functions day-to-day in the shop.

When should I submit a survey?

As soon as you can after using the tool, while the experience is still fresh in your mind. This will help us collect the most accurate info from your experience.

Should I submit a survey each time I use the product?

Yes. We are interested in both your positive and negative experiences with beta software.

I reported a problem, when will I hear about the solution?

Currently, all reported issues are being closely monitored, tracked and given a priority to fix. We do not yet have a formal process to alert beta testers when an issue has been fixed. We hope the fixes and improvements are seen when new software is launched.
